SW900 Switchers

The EMD SW900 is a 900-horsepower (670 kW) diesel-electric switcher locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between December 1953 and March 1969.  Its  engine was an EMD 567C, a two-stroke, 900hpV8 diesel. 260 locomotives of this design were built for US railroads and 97 were built for Canadian railroads.

The SW900 in Z

The SW900 is made solely of thin-etched nickel-silver and brass castings. It uses a coreless 8 mm motor, with a two stage reducer: the 1st stage with belt, and the 2nd stage with worm and wheels on the two central axles. The two central axles are rigid, and the two front axles are on a pony truck. 6 wheels take electricity.

The truck faces are rigid and do not turn, but with the small length of this model, it is not very visible.

The model comes with body mounted "GH" couplers ( Marklin couplers on special order). It also features LED direction-controlled lighting.

They are available for DC power OR for DCC (with Z2 decoder).

Minimum radius : 195 mm (the "small" MTL track radius)
