SW9 switchers - Z scale

Hand made models in edched nickel silver and brass

The EMD SW9 is a 1200-horsepower (895 kW) diesel-electric switcher locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between December 1950 and December 1953.  The EMD was fitted with a 567B two-stroke, 1200 hp (895 kW) V12 diesel engine. 786 locomotives of this design were built for US railroads and 29 were built for Canadian railroads.

The are made solely of thin-etched nickel-silver and brass castings. 

The engine is powered by a tiny 3 poles coreless 6 mm motor with a 3 stage reducer. Reduction ratio : 60:1

The axles "2" and "3" are powered. The axles 1 & 4 are "cosmetic" . This solution is not usual, but gives good results. Different other solutions were tested but each time the results were bad. Weight : 28 grammes.

The model comes with body mounted "Gerard-Huet" couplers. It also features LED direction-controlled lighting.

They are available for DC power OR for DCC (with Z2 decoder ).

Minimum radius recommended : 195 mm
